The assignment

  1. Maximize light and views while maintaining privacy.
  2. Make the most of a modest footprint.
  3. Support serenity.
  4. Minimize impact.

The experience

Nestled into a 200 acre property, this is the fifth project we’ve completed for the same family since 1998. Two gabled volumes—one public, one private—are linked by a glass entryway that floods the interior with light and frames views of the Vineyard Sound and Elizabeth Islands.

The client’s desire for “uncluttered, bright, and distinctive” guided every design choice. A casual yet refined palette– grounded by zinc countertops, unlacquered brass hardware, reclaimed bluestone, pine siding, and a copper roof – will age gracefully and develop a rich patina over time.

Soulful and quietly luxurious— this place extends the ultimate invitation to slow down and celebrate every view, breeze, and shift of light.

Craft is everywhere you look: from the single-piece marble sink to the Venetian plaster mural, custom white oak cabinetry, local artwork, and beyond. Dim-to-warm lighting adds a jewel-box glow at night.

Though modest in footprint, the floor plan feels expansive. An open kitchen-living-dining space spills onto a screened porch equal in size to the indoor living area. Two bedrooms, a den, and a home office offer further flexibility for both work and retreat.

Just beyond the windows, everything is wild. Gnarled trees, glacial erratics, and native plantings press close—there is zero lawn and minimal clearing—so from the water or higher ground, it’s practically invisible.
